History

Borbjerg Mills history goes back to the 14 century

In 1414 the Mill was in the possession of Bishop of Ribe, but there were many disputes about who was the rightful owner of the Mill. The dispute had to be decided through the courts.

Through the years, Borbjerg Mill has been owned by the manor houses of Eskjær, the court of the land and the Stubber Covent. In the 17 century the Mill was a holding farm under Rydhave Mansion but in 1803 it was bought free by farm owners.

Besides the Mill there has been farming, a bakery and a peat factory. In the Mills basement there is established a Mill Museum, which gives a good impression of the setting and atmosphere in the old days at the Mill. I 1931 the area was used for tractors.

After the invention of electricity became widespread, the farmers could now grind their corn with electrical driven grinders. The Mill Grinder can still be seen in the Mill room and in the basement you can see the old millwork and enjoy the view of the Mill Wheel, which

Rotates and beats the water from the Mill lake out to the Hellegård River. Here the water is led 10 km north to the Limfiord by Venø Bay.

The Mills present owner, Esther Jensen has published a book about the history of the Mill.

The book can be purchased at the Inn for D.kr. 98. (Eur 14)
